Background: Located just northeast of Belgrade, this home was in dire need of some attention after enduring the elements for over a decade without any treatment. The siding was previously stained with a bright green stain, and the owners wanted to switch it up. Rather than spending huge amounts of money to replace the siding or refinish the existing siding with a messy and expensive sandblast, we determined the best option to update the look of this heavily weathered home was to use a solid-body stain. This would protect and seal the cracked, weathered wood and would be thick enough to allow for a color change.

Process: We worked with the owners to select a color of solid-body stain that they loved. Washing the wood, masking all windows/doors/fixtures, and laying down floor coverings are all stages of preparation that we conducted before touching a brush or sprayer. This challenges that we faced on this project were the height of the building and the sheer amount of square footage on the large walls. To reach the top of the 45' wall in back, we utilized a boom lift. The only option to reach the walls on the steep-sloped sides of the home was to use tall ladders. This entire exterior fully absorbed two full coats and the super dry areas needed a third coat to be fully sealed. Once the siding was all properly coated, we finished the home by applying multiple coats of brown oil stain onto all the accent trim and decking.
